"Embodying movement, lighter colors, ample space between elements, these two pieces (Expanding I and II) appeared one Saturday afternoon in the studio. I had no expectations, and allowed them to swim within a creamy background, resisting the urge to fill in all of the empty space with details. These bulbous natural forms, reminiscent of seed pods and stone structures, are layered with hints of shapes beneath and beyond, and of warp and weft stripes at play. There is a feeling of new beginnings in these two paintings. Hints of sap green can be glimpsed peeking through, with promises of health and wellbeing ahead." — Marilet
Made from earth pigments and all natural materials, the pieces in this collection are all particles of nature re-formed, connecting the world outside with our worlds indoors. They have a steady presence and are composed of imperfect structures, which despite their irregularities (or perhaps thanks to them) are resilient and flexible, states of being I hope to embody. The imagery used is composed of positive and negative areas which invite the eye to move around, playfully distracting the mind from its preoccupations: a visual meditation of sorts.
