Solo show at Hugomento in San Francisco
The pieces in this show point to Marilet’s continued interest in
working with shapes and visual structures that offer a form of
comfort and quiet. The resulting compositions aim to invite the
viewer into a meditative state, keeping them company while they
linger there.
Over time the focus of her work has shifted away from the Personal towards the Universal. Symbols with specific meanings have been distilled down; stripes, squares, rectangles, and latticelike patterns have emerged. These pared down forms reach back in time, connecting the present moment to the past. The non-verbal power of shapes as a medium of communication is what intrigues the artist.
