Earthy and grounded, with a central oval shape, this striking narrative piece has distinct visual compartments and an abundance of shapes all combining to imbue the feeling of the African sun dappling through a shady tree, and afternoons filled with long and drifting thoughts about the importance of stories passed down from generation to generation.
This piece was designed by Marilet Pretorius and hand batiked by the wonderful women of Baobab Batik, a socially conscious enterprise in Swaziland, Southern Africa. The intricacy of this design takes many hours to complete, and consists of three different color dips, the tones layered to create a rich and deep color palette.
